Dinner date review: Redang Moon – Vitamin Sea Kitchen
After exactly one year, we are back on Redang. Last year we found it so beautiful here and came to rest, that’s why we decided to go there again. The options in terms of food are limited, but we managed to get a table at the restaurant Redang Moon – Vitamin Sea Kitchen.

Preparation
When making your reservation, you pay a deposit of RM50, converted into €10 (with the current exchange rate, well, it’s in bad shape…), and it will be explained to you that on the day you come to eat, between half-past five and six in the afternoon, you will have to come by again to pass on your choice. All fish is freshly caught and prepared here. This takes a lot of preparation, and in order not to keep you waiting for hours, they want to know your choice in advance. We thought this was ideal.
Jernahak
We could choose from several fish species, including the white and red perch, squid, octopus, shrimp, and jernahak. This last Malaysian word told us pretty little, and fortunately, the waitress had the necessary pictures to give us an impression. We chose the jernahak, which turns out to be a snapper, to share and ordered rice (RM3 per plate) and eggplant (RM13). For the drinks, you pay about RM15, and the wine goes per bottle. The price of the fish depends on the day’s catch and in our case, it cost RM160, RM32. Meanwhile, the sun slowly set, and we sat on a small wooden table next to each other on a bench.

Eating at Redang
Last year I already wrote about the best food on Redang. It remains an island so they depend on what comes in. That means you can say goodbye to your iced matcha latte with soy milk. Deep-fried chicken, fish, pizza’s and fries are in abundance here. After a few days, you’ve had enough of this food, and you crave vegetables and rice. Luckily there is that possibility too at Redang Moon.
Restaurant
The first time we couldn’t make a reservation here. The restaurant was already full for the whole week, partly because they work in two shifts and there is only room for up to 15 people. Moon Vitamin Sea is located on a cliff, so you have to climb to enjoy the food. This time we were on time and booked a spot on the first day. Of course, it is a lot quieter now, because there are no international tourists. So this came out well for us!

South China Sea
At that time, the sea is anything but calm. Well, the sea itself is calm, but at that moment it is very busy! From lunch the whole beach is empty, and everyone retreats to their rooms. What exactly they do there, we haven’t found out yet, but we gamble on an afternoon nap. Around five o’clock the beach slowly fills up, and people stay in the sea until about eight o’clock. Meanwhile, it got dark and the evening divers came into the water. We had a perfect view not only of the South China Sea but also of the mountains of Redang.
Surgeon
Because we had indicated in the afternoon what we would like to eat, a quarter of an hour after arrival our food was already brought to us. We were served a huge fish, which I was only too happy to put my hands in. Not literally, of course, but I love to work as a surgeon and take that bone out. Okay, that took a little longer than planned, but in the end, we were able to let go. The food was delicious! I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten such a tasty fish with such a beautiful view. After that, we shared a chocolate mousse and drank some more. It was good that we decided to share dessert because we couldn’t say porridge anymore! You wouldn’t expect it, but such a fish fills up quite a bit! A lovely evening on a rock in Redang.
