Foxtrail through Luzern; is a perfect way to get to know the city

We have been to Luzern about six times in the past year. The first time we visited this town was on our third day in Switzerland! It was super cold, and we were still in a kind of lockdown at the time, which meant we couldn’t sit inside to warm up. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case this time because we were in Luzern for an active reason; the foxtrail.

Foxtrail

We didn’t know the phenomenon ‘foxtrail’ yet, but after last weekend we are enthusiastic. Foxtrails are quite popular among the Swiss, and they go out en masse, where a foxtrail can sometimes take up to five hours! But what exactly is this? Foxtrail is a team experience for friends, colleagues, and families where the city becomes a playing field. Along the way, teams have to break codes and find hidden messages to avoid losing track of the fox. The clues are tricky and can only be solved through intelligence and team spirit, so it can be quite challenging.

It was a fun activity that offers you new insights into the city. On one hand, you are active and have to walk quite a bit, depending on the package you book, and on the other hand, you have to work together and think and look carefully for certain clues. At first, a treasure hunt may sound a bit childish, but the Foxtrail is fun for any age group. After a few hours, you can, of course, have a drink somewhere, as long as you arrive at the end in time, because you don’t want to miss the winner’s photo! Final tip: book a Foxtrail in spring or summer, when it is lovely to walk outside. It’s a bit more pleasant than searching for clues in a foggy city in the winter at -2!

Packages

Having visited Luzern six times, you expect to have seen most of it. The Kapellbrücke, Hofkirche, Löwendenkmal, Spreuerbrücke and Reusswehr, are some of the highlights in this city. What makes the Foxtrail so much fun is that it takes you past undiscovered corners of the city. You learn in this way to discover a different side of a city. This is not the case for only Luzern you can book a Foxtrail in many different cities in Switzerland. On the website, you will find the different packages you can book. This differs from 2.5-3.5 hours Zeus-Luzern to 4.5-5.5 hours Attika-Luzern.

Public transportation

We booked the Zeus Foxtrail. Adults pay CHF32 per person and children CHF17. For a family of two adults with two children, the package costs CHF79. The tour starts at the station where you have to print out the directions. It is important to book the scavenger hunt in advance as you will be dependent on public transport. Sometimes you have to go somewhere by train or bus or even take a trip on a boat. In addition, some packages are closed during certain seasons of the year because, for example, some trails or tourist attractions are closed during wintertime.
