From Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu; a one-hour flight
The holiday started yesterday afternoon with a cocktail on the beach of Kuala Terengganu. Unfortunately, this is not true, we are in a hotel where no alcohol is served… It took exactly three hours to arrive from our apartment to the hotel. Our holiday in our own country can finally start!
Subang Airport
I’ve written before that traveling by plane is pretty cheap. Last time we flew with AirAsia from KLIA airport. This is about 45 minutes from our apartment. Now we were lucky and we could leave at Subang airport. A small airport with only domestic flights and 15 minutes away from us, so that was perfect!
Firefly
Yesterday we flew with airline Firefly where we bought two return tickets with luggage for only €135. With AirAsia, the tickets were a bit cheaper, but because we had to take the Grab to KLIA, we pay an extra €30. In the end, the Firefly tickets were cheaper and easier for us, because it is so close by. We do fly in a smaller plane with propellers! So I had to prepare myself mentally for this flight.

Sutra Beach Resort
We stay in hotel Sutra Beach Resort, a half-hour drive from the airport ‘Sultan Mahmud’. The hotel has a swimming pool and overlooks the beach, so we won’t be bored here. We will stay in this hotel for four days so we have enough time to see some more of the area. The places in Malaysia where we have been so far, are often already visited by tourists. Kuala Terengganu is more known by local tourists but most backpackers and tourists skip this city. Kuala Terengganu usually serves as a departure point for the islands of Perhentian and Redang.
Merang
Kuala Terengganu is located in the northeast of Malaysia, about a five-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. From here you drive in three quarters to Merang, where the ferry to the islands of Redang and Perhentian departs. Besides the fact that Kuala Terengganu is located on the beach and close to the airport, what else can you do here?
Climb Bukit Puteri for a nice view over the city
Visit the Crystal Mosque
Island hopping to Duyong Island
Drive to Lake Tanjung Mentong Tasik Kenyir
