Marini’s on 57: dining on the 57th floor

Jeroen turned 26 last Saturday! The best man is already going to his ’30s and that had to be celebrated. For the first time a birthday abroad (in Kuala Lumpur), which means a very different birthday than normal. No friends coming by or a party, we had to get through it together. That worked out well!

Marini’s on 57

From one rooftop bar to another, we ate this evening at Marini’s on 57. This consists of a delicious Italian restaurant, a rooftop bar, and a whiskey and cigar lounge. If you want to sit in the restaurant by the window, make sure you book in time! You also need to spend a minimum amount of RM300 per person. That’s easy to achieve by the way.

Toilet

The staff at Marini’s on 57 is very friendly. So friendly that they even help you in the toilet. You don’t have to press the soap pump yourself and when you’re done washing your hands, then they are already ready with wipes to dry your hands. A bit uncomfortable, especially if you don’t expect this.

Dessert with caviar

We had a delicious meal in this restaurant. Between meals, they serve small snacks and everything is explained exactly what you put in your mouth. The meat is so tender that you don’t have to chew it and the pasta is also easy to slurp away. For dessert, we ordered the ‘Caviale di tiramisú’. It is served in a box and when the server removes the lid, you are scared to death. At least I was. The top was covered with caviar! Who would think of dessert with caviar? All kinds of things went through my head, but the heartbeat dropped when it became clear that the caviar was made of chocolate and coffee. Lovely! The dessert is very fluffy so you still have room for the chocolates that are served when you pay the bill. Then it’s time to go home with a full belly back to the three elevators.

Petronas Towers

The view of the 57th floor is beautiful, especially since you are so close to the Petronas Towers. After dinner, the server will walk you to the sky bar to take a picture of you between the two towers.

Experience

But before you are in the restaurant, you still have a long way to go. When you arrive in the huge building the first elevator will be opened for you. If you think you will be launched immediately to the 57th you are wrong. Somewhere halfway you stop and are guided to the next elevator. In the meantime, you have to go through security. You would expect to arrive in the restaurant, but no this is not the case. Another elevator is needed to arrive at the top floor. Three lifts further you have at least a lot of experience behind you and wonder what you end up in.
