The website Lisa on Air is one year ‘on air’
March 12th, 2019 I wrote my first blog for my website Lisa on Air. We are now one year and more than 160 blogs further. Time for a look back, what did I write about last year?
Own website
I had been thinking for a long time about starting my website where I could write on, only it never came until last year. When it became clear at the end of 2018 that Jeroen and I would be moving to Malaysia, this seemed to be the perfect moment to capture all our adventures on paper or well… online. We are now exactly 164 blogs further and have visited a lot of new places, countries, and islands in the past year.

Expat life
Many blogs are dedicated to our expat life in Kuala Lumpur. Well, I don’t think we live the life of a typical expat, we still don’t have a cleaning lady or a maid living with us and our children are not in international schools either. Before I shock everyone, we don’t even have children. In addition, I wrote about arranging our visa and what kind of hassle that involved. Still actually, because of the MCO we have been ‘illegal’ in Malaysia for three weeks now.
Thai massage
The Thai massage, which I got in Kuala Lumpur by the way, turned out to be quite an adventure. This was the first time and so far also the last time. I can still get the air in front of me from the woman sitting on top of me with yesterday’s garlic hanging around in the little room. And that while I was lying in a position I never saw myself doing after that.
Cigarettes
We spent our first mini-holiday on Samosir in North Sumatra. I wrote a lot about this as well. This was partly because we were the only tourists, the hot springs weren’t that hot and on our way to the airport, we were crammed into a small van for five hours. The driver was very nice and wanted to exchange our cookies for some cigarettes.

Pokémon catchers
From that moment on, we didn’t sit still and made a lot of amazing trips. For example, we walked among Pokémon catchers in Singapore and took a look at the king’s palace in Bangkok. After half a year we were back on our bikes for the first time in Tokyo and in Bali, we didn’t do anything but eat. Early this year we visited Vietnam and were driven around the busy, chaotic Ho Chi Minh at the back of a scooter.
Also from Malaysia itself, we saw a lot of cities, like Malacca where the Dutch influences can still be found, Ipoh where the food was fantastic and the Cameron Highlands where we drank tea between the tea plantations. On the islands of Redang, Penang, and Langkawi we enjoyed the wonderful weather and even saw baby turtles!
Working together
Besides writing on my website, I also blogged on other websites in the past year. For example, I have a monthly column on the website of Azie.nl. Getaway Travel is the organization behind this online travel magazine. They have been helping travelers make their dream trip come true for almost fifteen years. I also blog on Travelstamps.nl, a new website of Weflycheap and write about my favorite restaurants in Bali. Twice a year De Flits is released in Malaysia. A magazine especially for all Dutch people who live here and where my articles are published as well. Soon an article of mine will come online on a new website with which I recently started a collaboration!
On to a year with even more blogs, trips, and collaborations!

Samenwerken
