Things to do on Redang Island

Redang is one of the beautiful islands of Malaysia. A white beach and clear blue water, you can easily spend a few days here and watch nature. And the most ideal? It’s only an hour’s flight from Kuala Lumpur, so it’s easy to combine! What is there to do at Redang?

Long Beach

Only a few places on the island are inhabited. Here are some resorts and restaurants. In the evening visiting another side of the island for a nice bite is difficult, you can not get here by car. In advance, it is useful to find out where you should stay. If you want a bit more liveliness, then one of the hotels on Long Beach is the place to be.

Sold out

You must book your Redang hotel on time. We did this two months in advance, but by then most of the hotels already had no room left. We preferred the hotel ‘Laguna Beach Resort’, €145 per night. As it was sold out, we chose the hotel ‘Sari Pacifica‘ with a price of between €70-100 per night.

1.Relaxing at the beach

You often see it on Instagram. The bluest water you’ve ever seen and a white beach so far as you can reach. ‘This has to be photoshopped’ was always my thought. But no, it’s true, the white beaches and the clear water truly exist! The sand on Redang is wonderfully soft so you can easily lie on your back for a day, without waking up burned at the end of the day with a herniated disc. Also, the sea is almost always calm and you can enjoy floating in it.

2.Lunch at Pelangi Bistro

This tent looks cozy right away and is packed every night! In the evening you can go here for some finger snacks and pizza. A must is to have lunch here with a ‘Popcorn caramel frappuccino’. They prepare delicious ciabatta sandwiches with chicken or tuna and lettuce. You order and pay at the bar and then take place at a table overlooking the sea. Besides, they have special drinks here that also taste very good. The ‘Popcorn caramel’ is great and costs RM17, about €3,65.

3.Watch the turtles on Chagar Hutang

Normally tourists are not allowed on Chagar Hutang, as this can disturb the peace of the turtles. In this whole area, boats are no longer permitted after three o’clock in the afternoon. Recently hotel ‘Sari Pacifa’ organizes tours to this beach on Sundays. From 9 am to 12 pm you will get a tour and maybe even see a hatchling! The cost is RM150 per person, converted to €32. A unique opportunity to learn more about the turtles from the researchers who work there.

4.Searching for fish while snorkeling

Each hotel on Long Beach offers snorkeling and diving tours. Every hour boats with about 50 tourists leave for an area where you can find the most beautiful fish, turtles and reef sharks. The easiest way is to ask at the hotel what they offer. You will be on the road for about 1.5 hours and will be given goggles, snorkeling and a life jacket. All you have to do is look around and don’t worry about anything else. If you prefer not to do a tour, you can also rent a snorkel set at the hotel. For the whole day, this costs about RM 15 (€3). Around the rock where restaurant Moon Vitamin can be found, there is plenty to explorer.

5.Dining at Moon Vitamin Sea Kitchen

This restaurant with only four tables is incredibly romantic. On top of the rock with some small lights, in the evening you can enjoy the setting sun and the waves that hit the rocks. This restaurant is only open in the evening and you must book in time! Unfortunately, we found out too late that it was so popular and we were unable to reserve a place here anymore. So even though I have no idea what the food is like here, I still recommend it. Only the road to the top indicates that you are on your way to a special place. The benches and tables are adapted to the rock you are on. A super romantic environment! And don’t forget to make a reservation!

6.Drinks at Laguna Beach Resort

Long Beach has no promenade and this provides a funny and cozy picture in the evening. In the dark and sometimes with a mobile flashlight, everyone walks through the sand plowing to the various restaurants. During the day this is much more difficult and it is much too hot, but also in the evening this is a good work-out for the calves. But what could be more fun than an evening walk through the sand with the sea in the background? Hotel ‘Laguna Beach Resort‘ is a beautiful hotel with a huge terrace. Every evening there is live music with waiters in Hawaii shirts to provide everyone with the best cocktails. Here, too, the evenings are full, both upstairs in the restaurant (with a view of the sea) and downstairs on the terrace. The atmosphere is very cozy and the service is very friendly.
