Tulipmania in Gardens by the Bay
Last week I wrote about what I was planning to do in Singapore, like visiting Tulipmania. Last Thursday Jeroen and I went together to Gardens by the Bay to admire the tulip fields.
Supertree Grove
Gardens by the Bay is a huge park in Singapore with metal trees (Supertree grove) and two greenhouses (the biomes). The strategy of the Singaporean government is to transform the city from a garden city into a city in a garden and thus become a leading metropolis of the 21st century. I think they are well on their way with this!
Evening show
The park area and thus also the Supertree Grove is free to visit. Here is enough to see and especially the evening show is crowded. The metal trees are beautifully lit and show a 15-minute show. This is where a lot of people come in. The biomes close at nine o’clock in the evening after which everyone via the bridge to Marina Bay Sands leaves. That is a nice walking route and this way you can see the hotel from the other side.

Cloud Forest
After that we walked on to Cloud Forest and here we had an hour. When you walk in here, you have the feeling that you are in Burgers Zoo. It even smells the same! Cloud Forest is a lot bigger and there weren’t any animals like in Burgers Zoo. The Cloud Forest is huge and very impressive. When you walk into the biome, you look out on a mountain covered with plants, trees and flowers and a 30 meter high waterfall. At regular intervals, fog is coming out of the waterfall, making you feel as if you are walking in a jungle. If you want to go to both biomes, it is useful to take your time. There is so much to see and it is a shame if you have to run through it. And end your evening with the light show of the Supertree Grove.

Tulipmania
We came for Tulipmania, of course. We miss the Netherlands so much that we take every opportunity to find something of the Netherlands. No, this is not that bad (would be if we miss it so much by now already already), but we were very curious about this spectacle. You can order tickets online and this saves you $2 per ticket than when you buy it at the box office. We paid $20 per ticket, which is equivalent to €13. You can buy a ticket for both biomes, i.e. the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest. You can also choose to visit one of the two biomes. While writing this blog, I only find out that you could have bought a ticket for one of the biomes. We arrived at half past seven in the evening so we only had 1.5 hours to visit both Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. So we had to go through the two greenhouses in a hurry.
‘Oliebollen’ and ‘bitterballen’
In Flower Dome you can visit Tulipmania until the end of May. If you’re still wondering if foreigners see our country as a place where tulips, cows, clogs, windmills and bicycles can be found, then the answer is yes. A lot of tulip bulbs hadn’t come out yet, we had expected a bit more of this in advance. On the website it was mentioned that they were selling ‘oliebollen’ and ‘bitterballen’. We were looking forward to this the most, but unfortunately we didn’t find it.
